A Not-Too-Bad Healthy Snack

You walk in the door after a long, hard day at school. You're tired and so hungry and you want to stuff you face with chips and bread. Stop yourself. You know how you'll feel when you eat that! Have a glass of water of eat a few almonds and then think about what to eat. A lot of the time an apple, won't cut it for me and I don't like to eat too many gluten free biscuits because they can be rather processed. This snack is something that I love to eat, I'll only have it one, maybe 2? Times a week. It isn't the healthiest thing you'll ever eat, but it honestly isn't that bad when you think about it.

Ingredients:
Gluten free wraps ~ I used little corn tortillas
Tomato or pizza sauce
Mozzarella

Method:
Spread sauce on tortilla then add mozzarella
place in toasting machine or oven until cheese is melted
Enjoy!

And yes, I do always have a coffee after school, usually almond milk

Francais

I Sophia. Me. Is going to France.
I am trying to remain calm and professional whilst writing this post but can we just asdfghjkl, excuse me, carrying on. In April, this year I am flying via Singapore Airlines to the beautiful, magical, France. I am going through school and I am so thankful for this opportunity. Going to France has been a dream of mine for forever, my parents have been twice and they say it is probably their favourite place they’ve visited. I’m most excited for Paris, the Eiffel tower, Arc de Triomphe, Louvre, all the gorgeous gardens and buildings and the fashion, oh my, the fashion.
Paris is one of the fashion capitals of the world! And if you know me or have been reading my blog, you’ll know, fashion is a huge part of my life. I am already searching tumblr and fashion blogs for outfit inspiration, and I’m listing all the fashion/beauty items I need (it’s a long list). But the thought of being in a new place and meeting new people, going to a place no one knows me, is thrilling – in the good way. Getting to experience a different way of life, having a change. I’m so sick of Auckland at the moment, it’s always the same routine, same people, same things, same work and I’m so sick of it, getting out for 3 weeks keeps me motivated and keeps me functioning properly. There are some things I am determined to do in Paris; eat one of those long sandwiches, do a photo that looks like I’m holding the Eiffel tower, be kissed by a French guy (I’m going to be a boy heaven, all the boys are amazing fashion sense) eat snails, and to get complimented on my clothing choices. I feel as though this is a post of many disjointed thoughts, but it’s because I’m so excited, I can’t focus!

13 Reasons Why // Book Review

I should write 13 reasons why you should read this book, but you’ll have to settle for a paragraph.
What is it about? Here is the blurb bit “Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers thirteen cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker, his classmate and crush who committed suicide two weeks earlier. On tape, Hannah explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he'll find out how he made the list.”
Yes it is sad, yes it is dark but it really makes you think, I honestly did a whole lot of thinking whilst reading this book as well as reflecting. It is one of those books you can actually relate to with some parts (it doesn’t mean you want to commit suicide just because you relate to parts of a book about suicide). If you don’t like things that involve depression, cutting, partying or anything sexual I would recommend not reading this, but, In saying that, these things are what is happening in our world today and it is honestly quite common, so looking into it and learning more about it and what others go through, isn’t a bad thing. The characters are normal people, at a normal high school, with normal troubles and it makes you realize that this could be what someone is going through.

Auckland Lantern Festival

Every year in Auckland the Chinese Lantern festival is held. This year it was very popular, so much that nearly all the accommodation in Auckland was booked out. The girls and I decided to all go together, before the festival we decided to eat at Mexicali Fresh. What a great choice. Mexican is my favorite type of food and this place was amazing! There were many options including a taco bowl which Ruby had and looks extremely yummy, the drink were all delicious and the prices were great. There as a lot of talking and a lot of laughing. After that truly wonderful meal we made our way to the festival, it took us forever to make our way through the crowds and regroup in an open space. Isn't it ironic how the first place we went to were the food stalls even though we'd just eaten? we wanted the watermelon/pineapple ice cream floats ~ totally worth the half hour it took to squeeze through everyone! And even after that a few of us still got crepes ~ not so worth it. As it got darker the lanters got brighter and they are beautiful. And there were so many different ones, it really amazes you what people can do. If you haven't been to the lantern festival, go. I hope anyone who went enjoyed it!

The Boyfriend Issue

Having a boyfriend. Wait I don't know what that feels like because I've never had one, but I don't mind, that is what this post is about. I discuss this a lot with my gorgeous friend Talz. Why do girls feel as though they are incomplete until they have a boyfriend? Do you think it'll make you forever happy? Do you think it'll make you more mature? Well pull yourself together girly, imagine someone is metaphorically whacking you with a news paper. Some boy isn't going to come and save you, if you're in need of saving, you're going to have to learn to save yourself. You don't need a boyfriend to be able to do certain things? You can cook for yourself, dance around the house yourself, you have friends to hug you, you should always have someone to talk to and for me, when I'm upset, I don't need some guy holding me and telling me it'll be alright, I shop! And eat.... My point being, you shouldn't feel as though you need a guy to complete you or be the only thing that'll make you happy, you need to realize that if you want to feel happy, you'll have to learn to do it yourself.

And I mean, Why would you want a boyfriend?

Especially if you're still in school? You should be focusing on you and your studies. Boyfriends look like hard work? I feel as though some quotes from one of my all time favorite movies clueless are necessary.

"Searching for a boy in high school is as useless as searching for meaning in a Pauly Shore movie" it's true, if you're anything like me, you'll have expectations for a guy, I would'nt just date anyone, I meant the basis of my expectations are that he has to be 6ft or over and have great fashion sense,

"I'm not prude I'm just highly selective"

"You see how picky I am with my shoes and they only go on my feet"

Watch it if you haven't. But I hope you see my point. You don't need a guy to save you! Ignore all the stories, go ahead and save yourself! If you are going to date someone, date someone who you actually really like, don't date someone just because you feel like it's sad not having a boyfriend. Because the fact that you think not having a boyfriend is sad, is actually sad.

Help yourself.

A Future Plan

What do you want to do when you’re older? What is your future plan? Where do you want to study? For years these questions have panicked me and stressed me out because I had no clue whatsoever of what I wanted to do.  I have been into fashion for years and years, it is something my life revolves around and it is one of my cures for whenever things go badly and then I started my blog around the end of last year and I had considered doing something with journalism or blogging, but I didn’t know what? I also don’t want to spend the entirety of my life in New Zealand? I want to live, even if it’s short term, in one of fashion capitals – preferably New York or London. The thought of having a small, simple apartment to myself or to share with another excites me so much, especially the fridge part, controlling what goes into my fridge. Being able to decorate things the way I like, white and simple, sitting on the couch at some late hour eating Chinese food and watching Rom Coms, painting the walls, dancing around listening to cheesy music, having long phone conversations lying upside-down on my bed, being able to talk freely, waking up every morning and walking to the same coffee shop and having my order remembered, the thought of it just makes me smile. Then I got it! I knew exactly, exactly, what I wanted to do. So here’s my plan, which probably sounds improbable, but it’s a dream:

I want to study journalism at Auckland University and whilst I’m at University I want to get a job working at a clothing store and once I graduate I want to find and open space at a magazine in New York, even if it’s just as an assistant, I’m not sure entirely how the NZ-NYC works, my dad explained it to me but I have forgotten! I then want to get my little apartment and work at the Fashion Magazine in New York. I want to work my way up to writing, even books or a column in the magazine. I’m going for the Devil Wears Prada, Sex and the city, Carrie Diaries sort of thing. But that is my dream, and the idea of that is what I use to keep me motivated, to keep me going when I want to give up.

Don’t stress about your future. Don’t let people tell you what they want to you to do. It seriously came to me when I was in the middle of dinner and I was all of a sudden like “I KNOW WHAT I WANT TO DO WITH MY LIFE”. Do what you love, and love what you do.
